Tuesdays 9-2The GTQG Community Service continues to support organizations and members of the Golden Triangle and beyond. This year again we provided quilts to military and veterans hospitals in the San Antonio area. In addition we donated finished quilts to CASA, Boys Haven, Ubi Caritas, an organ donation group from Christus and homeless veterans. We also have 2 finished quilts so far for the quilts for sale booth at our 2020 show. Community Service uses fabric primarily donated by guild members. The guild funds other needs even in this year of COVID and hurricanes Community Service has continued to support the communities around the Golden Triangle and beyond. Our organization donates completed quilts to CASA, Boys Haven, military hospitals in San Antonio and an organ donation group at Christus St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont. This effort is supported mainly by donations of fabric from guild members and fundraisers such as pin basting quilts for members and CS quilts sold at our annual quilt shows and auctions. We also accept monetary donations from the public. We at CS cut fabric and make quilt top kits to hand out to our members who in turn give back to CS finished tops ready to be sandwiched into quilts. We then complete the quilts, ready to be donated to the above organizations. Total quilts for 2020 is 38

The organizations that we donated completed quilts to are CASA, Boys Haven of Beaumont and the Brooks Medical Center of San Antonio for injured service men and women. In addition this year we donated completed quilts to individuals and families affected by Hurricane Harvey and to a family whose home was destroyed by fire. Community Service uses fabric primarily donated by our guild members. The guild funds Community Services other needs of batting and notions by retaining a percentage of the money made in the quilts for sale booth at our bi-annual quilt show. went to Boys Haven today. There were 5 boys that didn’t already have a Community Service quilt. We brought 12 for them to pick from and a couple of the boys had a little trouble trying to decide. It was lovely to see their eyes light up when seeing all the quilts. Tomorrow two more boys will be there and Jenni is going to bring back the quilts not picked today and a few more for the boys to choose from. The Golden Triangle Quilt Guild/ Community Service received a certificate of appreciation from Boys Haven for all the quilts we have donated to their boys through the years. The certificate was presented to GTQG by Denise Berry / Development Director for Boys Haven. Thank you to all our members for making our donations to Boys Haven and other charitable organizations possible. Certificate of Appreciation ~ Boy’s Haven Click here for the certificate

Community Service: (Activity is open to GTQG members only):
The purpose of the Community Service of the Golden Triangle Quilt Guild is to assist in the needs of the community. We have donated quilts to several charitable organizations in our community as well as to individuals who might have lost their homes due to fire. Our main objective recently has been to make and distribute quilts to the severely injured service men and women at the Brooks Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. The participation by the guild members has been remarkable. We use donated fabric which primarily comes from our guild members. The guild funds our other needs such as batting and sewing notions that we might need. We cut and organize kits for quilt tops which we bring to the guild meetings and they are always taken by the guild members and usually brought back to the next meeting. We quilt the smaller quilts on our sew days but have had the larger ones quilted by members with long arm machines. This has been an ongoing project for several years. We did not start keeping records on the donated quilts until 1999. |
In addition to making quilts, we have made items to sell in the boutique at our bi-annual quilt show, made doll dresses for the mothers shopping for Christmas at the United Board of Missions. We sold quilts at the “Quilts for Sale” booth at the quilt show and made cash donations to CASA, United Board of Missions and Some Other Place. Because we were using both the Port Neches and Nederland libraries for a period of time at no charge, we donated $100 to each of them as payment for use of their facility. We also donated a patriotic quilt to the Port Neches Library. |

We continue to make and distribute quilts either made or completed by the Community Service Group. Some of these quilts were kits brought to the guild meetings, put together by members, then completed by the CS Group. Our numbers really do not reflect the quilts that were completed in 2012 because we still have those quilts on hand, ready to go to San Antonio to the soldiers. The actual number delivered to the Wounded Warriors was 14. We sold 4 at the quilt show for a total of $250, 100% of the $250 going back to the guild. 9 were delivered to CASA in Beaumont, 3 went to Boys Haven and we gave one large quilt to a couple who had lost everything in a fire. We will be sending a large number to the Wounded Warriors as soon as we have someone going there. It will be hard to determine which were made in 2012 and those made in 2013 but the numbers will reflect what our guild has done for Community Service. Quilting is often done by Geraldine Lee to whom we give special thanks. We could not do what we do without the help of our good friends at the Golden Triangle Quilt Guild. We have had some done by Gayle Hurley and Dot Collins has quilted some which will be reported in this year’s report. Submitted by |

2011 – | December Year End Report
The Community Service group continues to make and distribute quilts. Our recipients in this year, 2011, were the Wounded Warriors at the Brooks Medical Center in San Antonio and CASA in Beaumont. The quilts that are more juvenile are given to CASA and for that organization, 11 quilts were donated. The remainder of the quilts went to the Wounded Warriors, that number being 37. We have many completed tops ready to be quilted. We have had a very favorable response from our members in completing these quilts from kits that we prepare and bring to guild meetings. Our members take these kits, put them together and return them to us. We then find a back for them, put the batting with the quilt and we either pin and quilt the quilt or they can be taken by a long arm quilter, quilted and returned to us for a binding. As you can see, quite a bit of work and organization goes into the completion of a quilt. Not to be forgotten is Marion Broussard, Patsy’s mother-in-law, who has completed more kits than we can count. Also, our long-arm quilter who has donated her skill is Nikki Brackin. We are now in the process of completing quilts to sell at the quilt show in February. They will be reasonably priced with the proceeds going back to the guild to put in the general fund. Those not sold will be sent to the soldiers. These quilts are all made from donated fabric with the guild purchasing our batting, thread and other quilting supplies as needed. We hope that with the sale of some quilts, we will be able to give back to the guild enough to defray the cost of these supplies. Submitted by |

9am to 2pm on TuesdaysThe Golden Triangle Quilt Guild Community Service continues to support organizations and members of the golden triangle and beyond. Community Service cuts and organizes kits for quilt tops to bring to our monthly guild meeting. Guild members then take those kits and bring back a completed top which other members take and return quilted ready to be finished and then handed out. Total of 121 quilts … WOW!

- Jenni Beaumont, Lydia Anderson and Kathy Tade …
went to Boys Haven today.

2012 – | December Year End Report
